Gone But Never Forgotten
A Tribute To Those No Longer With Us

Steve Adcock

Graduation year: 1975
Brian Davis - March 1st, 2015
Steve was more than someone I knew, he was a friend. I remember going to Terry Heights Elementary, and then Stone with Him.
It was at Stone that I got to know him and his sense of humor best. I have fond memories of sitting with Steve and Phillip LeMay in
Mr. Hatchett's ceramics class in the basement, talking cars, bikes, and Mr. Hatchett's warning to "Not waste the clear glaze".

Over the years, I have often thought of Steve. He may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.

Gary Sanders - January 3rd, 2011
I sat right behind Steve in the 5th grade. Pasty Ford sat in front of him and Hollis Lowery still further up the row. Steve loved to read Mad Magazines, especially the Spy vs Spy cartoons.  He was lots of fun to be around and I really miss him. He was the first friend that I ever lost when he was only 17 years old.

Robert Ballard

Birth Date: 1957-06-15
Deceased Date: 1978-05-23
James Ballard - August 21st, 2019

(Robert's Apollo 11 medallion issued by NASA Manned Flight      Awareness Office in 1970)

...Only recently did I discover, within the bottomless depths of my life's storage, a "family heirloom" given by my father to my dear brother Robert Ballard. He was 12 in 1970. He died in 1978. At the age of 20. Victim of the worst of brain tumors. Same tumor that had taken the lives of both Sen. Edward Kennedy and Sen. John McCain. Only they, without question, had a full life.

The fate of one life decided by that Roll of the Dice, from which my brother could not benefit.

Although the 1970 Bacon mint medallion was certainly not the first such medallions, the one I found that belonged to my brother is obviously priceless to me. There were apparently 200,000 struck by the New Orleans mint, meaning they are much less rare than the original versions, and subject to cheap fakes and "eBay" exploitation. But knowing it came out of my own family collection, I'm privileged in knowing that what I have is the real thing.

Because my father was so deeply involved in the space effort, Robert loved anything that had to do with space. From the time he was a boy, he collected rocket models, rocket banks, rocket anything...and even a rocket montage paper construct in the first grade. He had the complete engineering construction "blueprints" (April, 1975) of the "SS Enterprise" from the famous "Star Trek" TV series.

I have all my brother made and collected.

All of the Apollo II medallions bear testament to an American legacy that lies deep in the minds of most Americans, especially for Americans who were alive at the time of the mission.

For me, Robert's medallion, illustrated above, holds more than one story.

John Burris - June 2nd, 2018
I have thought of Robert often over the years and wished I could tell his family he is still remembered. I enjoyed hanging out with him, Bill, Frank, Tom, Randy, etc. even though I was a newcomer at Butler. Robert even came and helped me dig out the swimming pool my dad had me working on. I really appreciated his company instead of  being stuck doing it alone. His life may have been short but his legacy is not!

Just seeing Robert's picture took me back many years. Running track at Butler with Robert. Goofing off in the summers in the neighborhood, and neighborhood football games. I don't know if we were suppose to be on the Huntsville Country Club property or not, but we sure had some good Sunday afternoon football games there. Seems that Robert was always playing quarterback and barking orders. I think I learned some colorful lanquage in those games. Great memories. He is missed.
James Ballard - July 10th, 2014
He was my dear brother, and the light of our family... And thanx, Sonnie Hereford, for your memorial tribute to him. James Ballard Tuesday, July 1, 2014
Sonnie Hereford - December 2nd, 2012
Robert was already a veteran of our Jr High Chess Club the first day I showed up. I'll always remember how welcome he made me feel as he accepted a game against me. He was my first Jr High opponent and a very good player!

Beverly Bricker (Burris)

Birth Date: 1956-11-22
Deceased Date: 2023-07-08
Obituary:
Beverly Bricker Burris
On Saturday, July 8th, 2023, Beverly Bricker Burris, age 66, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, left her earthly body to join her Heavenly Father.

Born in Shelby, Ohio on November 22nd, 1956, her family moved to Alabama a year later. She was known to say, “I wasn’t born in the south, but I got here as fast as I could.” Bev was the youngest of four siblings. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Theodore and Jean Bricker, and her older brother, Larry Bricker. She leaves behind her husband of 46 years John Burris, her son Jason and his wife Treeva and grandsons Josiah and Jonathan, daughter Laura, daughter Lindsey Burris Kitchen and her husband Jake and granddaughter Skylar. She is also survived by sisters Nancy Gibson and Joyce Lewis (Jack) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins, as well as friends by whom she will be greatly missed.

Bev loved YHWH, her God, from a young age and His love flowed through her into the lives of the many people she loved, served, and encouraged over her lifetime. Her faith relationship was integral to every aspect of her life. A passionate woman who “never knew a stranger” she made many friends who speak of her kindness, loving acceptance, and forthrightness. “Bev was real, you always knew where she stood and that you would hear the truth from her.” One of her passions was helping grieving people. She served in the Stephen Ministry for many years and afterwards continued to apply that training as needed in her circle of friends, coworkers, and acquaintances. Though she faced many health challenges she was full of joy, and she was fun to be around.

Bev and John were high school sweethearts and married in 1976 with the goal to “grow old together and be more in love than ever”. While one might debate the “old” part there is no doubt about being “more in love than ever”! Though she was employed for many years in work that she often loved and did well, she would say her greatest achievement was as wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She loved well and is greatly loved! She will be greatly missed but she has run her race faithfully and reached the goal. Praise and glory to God our Father!

In lieu of flowers we would encourage donations to Tennessee Valley Outreach, Bible Broadcasting Network (BBN) or any Beagle rescue you might care to support.

Celebration of Life for Bev Burris to be held Sunday, July 16th at Crosspointe Church in Madison (78 Hughes Rd, Madison, AL 35758). The family will be available to receive friends from 2-3pm. The service will start around 3:15pm with an opportunity for guests to share memories of Bev. After the celebration, refreshments provided by Crosspointe will be available for guests while we share stories of Bev from her many friends.

If you feel inclined to bring a card, a note, a memory, or picture of Bev the family would welcome the chance to see and hear how she touched so many lives in the days following. You can also email these items to MemoriesofBevBurris@gmail.com
