The Turbeville brothers - loud, fun-loving, rambunctious, daring, a little scary sometimes - but also, tender hearted and loyal friends.  It seemed everyone knew Doug and Pee Wee.  Because if you knew one, you knew them both. Doug was a fantastic baseball pitcher and anchored the pitching staff for all three years.  He absolutely confounded hitters with a fabulous curve ball.  I didn't realize how good it was until I batted off of him a few years later in the Huntsville men's baseball league.  The spin was so tight and fast you could seemingly hear the seems cutting against the wind.  It would come in at the top of the strike zone and by the time you swang at it, it was landing in the dirt.  The only other pitcher I ever faced with a curve ball that good was Charlie Lea, who went on to throw a no-hitter for the Montreal Expos in 1981. We won several games at Butler 1-0.  Doug would shut them out, and then hit a home run to win the game.  He would put the whole team on his back. Doug and I were nothing alike.  But we respected each other; at least speaking for myself, I respected him.  He always had a ready smile and a quick laugh.  It will be hard to forget Doug.  There was just something special about him.
